She highlighted that all meaningful conversation asks us to question our beliefs and use our different lived experiences to support each other through challenging conversations. In acknowledging the differences, we find the way to common ground. | | | | AISNE Workshop with Jason Craige Harris Last month, at the Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE) workshops, Pollyanna speaker Jason Craige Harris spoke on division and depolarization during this election season and beyond. He beautifully outlined practical strategies for fostering clear, effective, and non-judgmental communication with students, parents, colleagues, and loved ones. Be on the lookout for two more workshops with AISNE and Jason mid-August. | | | | | Anti-Bias in Education with Jaci Nelson In her informative workshop, Wonders Never Cease: Anti-Bias Education in Early Childhood, Jaci Nelson helped educators and caregivers navigate approaches for introducing and exploring the wonders of identity and diversity with young children. She left participants with insightful takeaways such as "when in doubt... remember to lead with curiosity," and to remember that there is "power in 'the pause:' power to stifle and power to spark connection." | | | | | | | | 6/4/24: Building Community Driven by Equity We are thrilled to have Devin LaSane lead us in our final 2023-24 school workshop - It's Easy as ABC(DE) Admissions - Building Community Driven by Equity. On June 4 at 12PM ET/9AM PT, Devin will help participants learn tools to determine blindspots where inequity may lie in the school admissions process. The group will also explore distinct ways to build a community representative of the world in which we want to live. | | | | 2024 Summer Series Kicks Off with 3 Workshops Join us on June 25 for our first week of summer workshops led by Pankti Sevak, HoS and Patrice Wakely, DEI Director at Friends School in SF, CA. Open to all—whether you receive financial aid or pay full tuition—the survey values input from every family, regardless of background. Complete the survey by June 10 to enter a drawing for $100 (double your chances by completing the entire survey). Your feedback will help PSV identify best practices, make recommendations about improving the experiences, and ensure that those who find themselves most in a position of need in our schools are also those who feel seen, valued, and supported through the critical and necessary aid process. TedTalk: Eliminate "Us vs Them" Thinking Listen in on Starts with Us co-founder Daniel Lubetzky as he discusses the need for all citizens to unite rather than view others as "good guys" and "bad guys" and argues that our real enemy isn't a person or group but a mindset. Watch the TedTalk here. | | | | | "I have attended several Pollyanna workshops both as an independent school trustee and as a parent. The workshops have deepened my understanding in the DEIB space and helped me with actionable strategies to use in my trustee, parent and community roles." - Maija Muncy, Parent and Board Chair, Drew School, San Francisco | | | MISSED AN EMAIL?
